The Venerable Pema Rigtsal Rinpoche was born in 1963. His father was the Second Degyal Rinpoche and mother Kyama Tshering. At the age of three he was recognized by His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche and Ling Rinpoche as the reincarnation of Chimed Rinpoche, an emanation of the great Indian siddha Padampa Sangye and spiritual head of the renowned Shedphel Ling Monastery in Ngari, Tibet.

Rinpoche received the practices of the Dudjom Tersar from his father the Second Degyal Rinpoche, and at age 19 became the disciple of the Great Master H. E. Khenpo Daser Rinpoche from whom he received teachings of sutra and tantra texts as well as the thirteen major philosophical treatises (Shungchen Chusum) for ten years. He received the precious and secret tantric instructions, transmissions and empowerments of the Nyingma lineage from the renowned spiritual masters H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche, H.H. Dilgo Khentse Rinpoche, H.H. Dodup Rinpoche, H.H. Penor Rinpoche, H.H. Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, H.H. Trulshig Rinpoche and H. E. Yangthang Rinpoche.

In 1985, Tulku Rinpoche reconstructed the Namkha Khyung Dzong Monastery in Humla, Nepal, which follows the Dudjom New Treasures and is currently home to more than 350 monks and nuns. There for more than 27 years he has given continuous teachings on the Shungchen Chusum as well as Mipham Rinpoche’s philosophical texts. Every year, Rinpoche presides over prayer festivals and teaching programs at the monastery, which are attended by more than a thousand monks, nuns, ngagpas, old, and young people living in Humla and Ngari, Tibet, and there are currently hundreds of hermits practicing in caves and solitary locations in this region under his instruction and guidance. In addition, Rinpoche has given many teachings in Taiwan, Singpore, Hong Kong and the U.S.A.

Pema Rigtsal Rinpoche has written a commentary on Calling The Lama From Afar by H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche, a biography of the First Degyal Rinpoch, and The Great Secret Of Mind published by Shambhala Publication in the USA.
